It was a night of FIRSTS in Greater Manchester West on Friday 26th January.

The Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Mrs Diane Hawkins LLB JP attended her first event in her new role as County President. Accompanied by the Deputy Lead Volunteer and King’s Scout Award Coordinator, the County President presented the FIRST King’s Scout Award to be achieved in Greater Manchester West. The recipient, Emily Topping is a volunteer at FIRST Broadheath Scout Group, and had worked towards her King’s Scout Award as part of Altrincham District Scout Network.

Whilst visiting 1st Broadheath, the County President was able to talk to young people and volunteers from the Group, District and County. Mrs Hawkins, a Scouting volunteer herself in Bolton was able to provide guidance to the Scouts who were taking part in a mini pioneering project learning a variety of knots and lashings, whilst they also learned patience was key when tying knots on such a small scale.

We were delighted our new County President was able to join us for this milestone occasion. On behalf of the whole County, we want to offer a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Emily on her remarkable achievement!
