Postponed due to the pandemic, we finally had our joint Beaver and Cub Camp. The camp was themed on the Commonwealth Games and featured lots of activities allowing young people to work towards activity badges and challenge awards.

Cubs arrived on Friday evening and Beavers on Saturday morning. On Friday evening, Cubs were challenged with creating a gateway for their campsite based on their country for the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

Activities on Saturday were focused on meeting requirements from the Outdoors and Adventure challenge awards, two elements of the Beaver and Cub programmes which were hard to achieve from home during the pandemic. Activities includes archery, shooting, climbing, team challenges, rope making, rocket launchers, knots, mini pioneering, camp gadgets, backwoods cooking and many more.

We all came together in the evening for a BBQ hosted by 3rd Ashton, followed by a campfire and as the sun set over camp, a giant inflatable screen showing The Lion King complete with popcorn cones.

On Sunday morning, we started with the opening ceremony of our Commonwealth Games with each district turning up dressed for the occasion with decorations too. The ceremony was followed by a flag parade and lots of sports themed activities for young people to take part, these included races, obstacle courses, throwing activities and more.

The event was a HUGE success! A big thank you to the Jacob, Tom and Dave (the organisers), all the volunteers and the team at Bispham Hall Scout Estate who made this event possible.
