On Saturday 25th June 2022, we celebrated the achievements of young people who’d achieved their Chief Scout Bronze and Silver Awards, the highest awards which can be achieved in the Beaver and Cub sections. This was the first Celebration of Excellence event since 2019 and therefore we had hundreds of award holders eligible to attend. Chief Scout Awards are achieved by completing a combination of activity badges and challenges awards, each focused around the different programme themes.

Young people attend the event with their parents and carers, taking part in a whole range of activities including climbing, archery, shooting, cavebus, inflatables, wood branding and craft, to name a few. The day was wrapped up with a presentation of attendance certificates to celebrate their achievements.

This year our event was supported by our Unit 53 (aka. The Weatherbees) who are our unit going to the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea next summer. The unit provided support in delivering activities, hosted our dignitaries and raised funds for their trip by running a BBQ stall serving hot dogs, burgers and drinks.

We were delighted to be joined by our County President, HM Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Sir Warren Smith and a number of other dignitaries including the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Mayors of Trafford and Wigan, Deputy Lieutenants Mrs Diane Hawkins, Mrs Susan Craig and Mr George Almond.

WELL DONE to all the young people across Greater Manchester West who’ve achieved the Top Awards for their section, particularly through a number of challenging years with Scouting mainly happening at home or socially distanced. A special thanks to the thousands of volunteers across our County who’ve continued to deliver Skills for Life.
