Scout, Explorer and Volunteer Shooting Competition 2024

January 13 - January 14

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ: ALL AVAILABLE PLACES HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED. IF YOU WISH TO GO ON THE WAITING LIST, PLEASE COMPLETE THE ENTRY FORM, BUT DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT UNTIL YOU ARE CONTACTED AND TOLD A PLACE HAS BECOME AVAILABLE.
This event is for young people and adults aged 10.5 years and above.

You are invited to enter this competition, which is being held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January 2024, and is open to all scouts, aged 10 and a half or over on 13 January 2024, in Greater Manchester West, including Explorers, Network and leaders. Even if you have never shot an air gun before, you can still enter, as time has been allowed for safety instruction and basic coaching, and you will be able to have some practice shots before the match. This is an individual event, you do not need to be in a team to enter.

Those who show potential will be invited to join the county squad from which a team will be selected to represent the county at the National Scout County Team Competition. New members of the county team are always needed.

The competition will be shot at a range of 10m, using the standard targets for 10m competition shooting. It will consist of 20 shots with an air rifle and 20 shots with an air pistol. There will be three age groups, under 13, 13 to 17 and 18 & over. Medals will be awarded to third place in under 13 and 13 to 17 age groups, and depending on entry, for 18 and over (NB ages are at 28 April 2024).

The competition is being organised by members of Altrincham Rifle and Pistol Club, and will be held at their range at the Altrincham Target Sports Centre. Members of ARPC will be on hand throughout the event to provide safety instruction, supervision and basic coaching in both air rifle and air pistol.

Under 13s can rest their elbows and/or body on the bench to help support the weight of the air rifle, and can shoot air pistol with two hands. Those who are 13 or over must shoot air rifle free standing, with no part of the air rifle or their body touching the bench, and shoot air pistol with one hand only.

All the necessary equipment will be provided on the day by ARPC, so you do not need to bring anything. If you do have your own equipment, you are welcome to bring it, provided that air rifles and pistols are of 0.177″ (4.5mm) calibre. Only open sights ie ring (or dioptre), post and notch etc are allowed, no laser or telescopic sights. No specialised shooting clothing is allowed. Note that footwear worn for both rifle and pistol must not provide any support to the ankle or lower leg, ie you cannot wear boots or shooting boots etc.

If you are bringing your own air rifle or air pistol, you must have regard to the legal requirements for carrying air guns in a public place. The car park is considered to be a public place.

Every entrant who is under 18 will require parental consent to take part in this event, this is included as part of the entry form. All entrants 18 or over must complete the Section 21 Declaration themselves.

Each entrant will be allocated a time to shoot. If it is missed it is unlikely you will be able to shoot on a later squad. You can indicate your preference on the entry form. The number of entrants that can be accommodated is limited, places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The more options you give, the more likely you are to be allocated an entry. In previous years there have been more entrants than places available, so enter early to get a place.

If you wish to shoot at the same time as another entrant, then ensure you both enter the same preferences for choice of squad, and complete your entries on the same day or as close together as possible. We will try to accommodate preferences, but may not be able to do so.

Make sure you click on the submit button, you will receive an acknowledgement email if you entry is successfully submitted, if you do not receive this within 2 days of completing your entry contact us to check if it has been received.

If you find you need to amend your entry after submission, contact us. DO NOT submit another entry form.
