It is possible, well desirable in fact, to complete the two Award syllabuses in parallel to each other.  Both Award syllabuses are subject to the same age restrictions and direct entry requirements making it easy to combine your efforts in completing both Award Schemes.

However, to complete both Award Syllabuses at the same time, it is essential that you do register onto the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme within three months of starting your activities.

This is because the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme impose very strict timings on the start and completion of activities which count towards the completion of a section.

Any activity which began more than three months prior to you enrolling on to the DoE Award Scheme cannot be counted towards the completion of that award section.  I.E. the start date of a qualifying activity cannot be greater than three months prior to you enrolling onto the Award Scheme.

The only exception to this is where the participant has completed qualifying activities via an Access Organisation and they should have Access Organisation Credits or Certificates to prove this.

You must also remember that all the Awards are to be approached as a marathon and not a sprint.  Both award syllabuses start at 14 with the Platinum Chief Scouts Award and the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's Award.  An individual can then take as long as they want up to their 25 birthday subject to the minimum age restrictions list above to complete their awards.
