Welcome Greater Manchester West County Scouts Online

GMWBadgeThe county (Greater Manchester West) covers the Metropolitan boroughs of Salford, Trafford and Wigan.

The county is very active and we hope this website will give you an insight into what we do.

2010 Lord Derby

The 2010 GMW Lord Derby competition where teams fought for the John Bell trophy was held on the 10th April at the Middlewood scout campsite. Like last year I ordered perfect sunny weather and the 5 teams enjoyed the 9 bases put by leaders of the county. These included a minefield, sheepdog trials and making a perfect square all these being blindfolded. On top of these they had to catapult an egg, get the team 1 Metre off the ground, geocach, make fires on water, comepete in a number challenge and erect a tent within a tent. 43rd Salford won the event on 203 points with 2nd Davyhulme and 2nd Stretford coming joint second with 200 points in the closest contest for years. Well done to these teams and to 3rd/1st Eccles and 17th Stretford who also took part. Thank you to the leaders who put on the bases. Download the complete score sheet here. Watch out next year's event. The teams do not have to be perfect to have fun in the event and learn something they didn't know in terms of skills or themselves as a team.

The winners (the teddy is the mascot and not part of the team!).
