2010 Hiking Competition

Unlike last year the hiking competition this year went slightly urban although with still quite a bit of countryside. The GMW scout and explorer competition was held around the Ashton-In-Makerfield area on the 26th Sept. It started at 3 Sisters countryside park and ended up at 1st Ashton HQ going via Billinge Beacon.

We had three scout team and three explorer teams enter this year and ended up with the following positions.

Scouts - 1st - 3rd/1st Eccles, 2nd 2nd Davyhulme, 3rd - 15th Wigan

Explorers - 1st - Salford, 2nd Dakota (2D), 3rd - 1st Lowton

The explorers competition was the closest it could have been with 1 point difference! Please download the full results from here. Well done to them all. We had fairly sunny but cool weather on the day. This didn't stop the 15th Wigan stopping at an Ice Cream parlour on route. Thanks again go to Chris Gaskell and his team from 1st Ashton for organising it plus all the other leaders that helped.

Watch out for a more challenging competition around Pendle Hill way next year. Perhaps we can get more teams entering!
