Both of the competitions for the explorers and scouts were held
in at Bispham Hall on the last w/e in June. 2nd
Davyhulme won the Scout's camping and Explorer's backwoods cooking
competitions, 3rd/1st Eccles won the Scout's
Backwood competition and 1st Flixton won the Explorer's
camping competition. 7 scout team and 5 explorer teams entered.

The Swinton and Pendlebury District Scout Orienteering day was
held on Saturday 3rd July 2010 at Haigh Hall. The day
was a great success and the weather was warm and sunny.
The event was attended by 14th Swinton, !st Clifton
and 12th Swinton Scout Troops, there were leaders from
the Groups assisting with the event and 14th Swintons
young leader Jack Law who is going to the Jamboree next

The BBC recently announced the biggiest rise in scout membership
in 38 years on its website which can be got from here. The picture on this page is of the
Winegums unit at the 2007 world Jamboree. You can see Steve Morrell
(Unit leader) and a number of other Winegums in the front of the

Having just been awarded the Silver Acorn I was lucky
enough to be able to attend the St. Georges day parade at Windsor
on the 25th April this year. Prince Charles (for the first time
ever) took the salute with the Chief Scout Bear Grylls in
attendance. Prince Charles talked to a number of the Queens Scouts
where as Bear as well as talking to the explorers tried to shake
all their hands. T

The 2010 GMW Lord Derby competition where teams fought for the
John Bell trophy was held on the 10th April at the
Middlewood scout campsite. Like last year I ordered perfect sunny
weather and the 5 teams enjoyed the 9 bases put by leaders of the
county. These included a minefield, sheepdog trials and making a
perfect square all these being blindfolded. On top of these they

The 2010 2MAD4 Leaders was held at Linnet Clough on the last
weekend in March. As tradition has it this being the time
where the clocks go forward. But the harden leaders of GMW can cope
with more lack of sleep (at least some can).
2MAD4L stands for 2 multi activity days and this year it was non
stop than most with Cube climbing, Low ropes, Assault course, Le
Mans Pedal Cars, Shoot

The 2009 Lord Derby competition had 8 teams competing in 11
bases in April. These included making camp doughnuts, putting up a
tent blindfold, skiing with carrying water and getting the team 1
metre off the ground. Well done to the 4th

The 2009 2MAD4 Leaders was held at Middlewood in June. 2MAD4L
stands for 2 multi activity days where they can learn new things,
do service on the site, meet old and new friends, take part in the
competition and most of all have fun. This year they could question
the CC and others in "Question Time", Slack line, play bucketball,
build egg rockets, create a Tibetan prayer flag amongst other

The County Camping and Backwoods competitions were held together
at the site of the 5th Urmston in June 2009. This site
proved an ideal setting for the two competitions as each of the 7
patrols had their own campsites. Well done to the 2nd
Davyhulme for coming first in the camping competition, to

2009 Hiking Competition
This was run on 27th Sept. at Waddecar Scout campsite
in the Trough of Bowland. The Scouts and Explorers sections
competed in separate competitions. The Results- Scouts
1st - 1st West Timperley, 2nd -
3rd/1st Eccles, 3rd -
