Jamboree Review

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree to Sweden has been a great success for our County. World Jamborees are global events Scouting is rightly proud off. They embody the ethos of a worldwide family of Scouting and the inclusiveness of Scouting across national boundaries, social backgrounds and different faiths.

This year, for the first time ever in this County a full unit of 36 young people supported by 4 leaders have taken part in this fantastic unique experience.  Without doubt the World Scout Jamboree will be a significant time in the lives of all who went. This is something we should be proud of. Being the first time that we have sent so many people to a Jamboree many of the things we did contributed to making the event a great success. Others were not so helpful.

Greater Manchester West County Executive is undertaking a review to learn from their actions and look to make improvements for the future. It is important that the good things are highlighted as much as the bits which did not go so well. However, the really important part of the review is what we should do next time. This is not an opportunity to have long lists of complaints, or to try and apportion blame, but to build on what we have and make informed improved plans for the future. This review has been broken down into separate parts so that all can contribute to the aspects of the Jamboree that they have been involved in and to aid collation of the responses. Please do not feel that you must comment to all sections of the review.

All responses must be emailed to jamboree.review@gmwscouts.org.uk between the dates of 15th August and 8th September, inclusive.  Anonymous replies will not be accepted. After colating the reviews the County Executive will then meet on the 28th September to use our experiences to determine how we will approach the support of the next Jamboree. Consultation with Districts will be entered into, before a meeting of the County Scout Council in December, where budgetary implications, if any, will be considered.

The Executive look forward to your input. Please download the review form by clicking here.

International Opportunities are available around the World from Cheshire to Croatia. Visit www.scout.org.uk/intops for the latest bulletin.
