You said, we did! On the many occasions I have met with leaders around the county there has been a demand to learn, share and develop skills and programme ideas. The aim of the ‘Beaver Programme Support Day’ is to give new and experienced leaders the opportunity through a variety of workshops to learn new skills that are transferable and help enhance programmes, meet other leaders and share programme ideas and to gain more knowledge around providing scouting for all.
Tea, coffee, juice and biscuits will be provided throughout the day and if you are here for lunch then we will be providing that too! A choice of meat and potato or cheese pie with peas.
There will also be lots of programme resources for you to take away with you including programme ideas, leaflets and skills cards!
Workshop 1: Aiming for Bronze (10:00-11:00)
The workshop is aimed at discussing and finding solutions to the challenges we face as Beaver Leaders in ensuring that every child achieves their Chief Scout Bronze Award at the end of the Beaver Section.
Workshop 2: Youth Shaped for Beavers (11:00-11:30)
Explore the different ways to use youth shaped in your colonies and how to make adjustments to those weird and wonderful ideas to meet the idea of the Beavers but also ensure we are meeting programme requirements.
Workshop 3: Programme Swap Shop (11:30-12:15)
Meet other leaders from across the county and share ideas for different areas of the programme. There will be a series of handouts available to take away with programme ideas, tips and tools to develop your Beaver Programme.
Lunch (12:15-12:45) – provided! A choice of Meat & Potato or Cheese Pie and Peas
(tell us your pie preference and tell us about your dietary needs on the booking form, link below)
Workshop 4: Practical Skills (12:45-14:45)
The biggest demand has been to provide an opportunity for Beaver Leaders to learn practical skills that will not only be transferable to Beavers but will also help to enhance your programme. There will be a whole variety of bases including simple knots, backwoods cooking, firelighting, shelter building, axe and bowsaw and more. In the two hour session you will be able to have four half an hour masterclass on bases of your choice delivered by experienced leaders from across our county.
Workshop 5: Scouting for All (14:45-15:30)
This workshop aims to allow leaders to explore scouting for all and to discuss with other leaders the barriers they face in providing inclusive scouting and how to overcome them. There will be a series of activities around making reasonable adjustments for young people in our sections.
