Effective Thursday 5th November 2020, all metros and districts in Greater Manchester West will move to the RED readiness level following the latest Government and National Youth Agency announcement. This readiness level means there can be no face-to-face activities with young people or adult volunteers and only online meetings can be delivered until further notice.

This year we may not be able to come together in the normal way to honour those who have bravely given their lives for us over the years, but we can still remember them.

Send a picture of yourself, in uniform, taking a break from your daily routine. Whether it’s time out from gaming, a break from TV or  just enjoying a cuppa. We want a picture of you taking a small moment to think of others.

We will put all your PAUSES together in a short video set to music and a poem to mark the occasion of this years Remembrance Day.

Send your photos to comms@nullgmwscouts.org.uk, no later than Friday 6th November.

COVID-19 is the biggest crisis we’ve faced in a generation

Now, over 500 Scout groups – many of them based in communities that were already made vulnerable before the virus hit – are struggling to make ends meet.

If they close their doors, thousands of young people will miss out on all the life-changing skills and experiences being a Scout can bring, precisely when they need us most.

That’s why we’re calling on all Scouts – and the people who care about them – to join us in a sponsored #RaceRoundTheWorld, to raise vital funds at this vital moment in our history.

For more information and to get involved, please visit https://www.scouts.org.uk/about-us/support-scouts/race-round-the-world/

We are delighted to announce the latest County Appointments:

Daniele Wiseman
County Chair

How long have you been in Scouting and how did you get involved?
I was an active Guide awarded the Queen’s Guide over 30 years ago but when my eldest daughter wanted to join Scouts, I became an ASL and then EXSL in Altrincham District. I moved on to a County role, as ACC Scouts and went on to DCC Development making my service with The Scouts now 8 years.

What is your favourite Scouting adventure or memory?
his is hard, there are too many. I enjoyed running the meetings with the Explorers in Alty District, and going to camp every May with the Scouts from 4th Bowdon. The Explorer Belt in the Baltic States was great, tracking our young people’s progress as they travelled independently across four countries, taking time out to meet with leaders in Estonia and Latvia and visiting the SOS Village in Lithuania. I enjoyed working with the ADC’s as ACC Scouts to run 6+ events over the year, particularly the Camping and Backwoods Competition and getting the Bathroom Takeaway bus to the Cardboard Canoe Competition. More recently I have greatly enjoyed working with the Leadership Team on events like The Buzz Live and the County Strategy.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the DCC’s, County Commissioner and Exec, because I never fail to be impressed by the time and commitment they put into the County, and in doing so I want to strengthen links between the Trustees and the County Leadership Team, broaden my understanding of how the County works and see where we can take it, as a team.

Dave Finch
Assistant County Commissioner for Cubs

How long have you been in Scouting and how did you get involved?
I have been involved in scouting for 25 years, in addition to my 3 years as a Cub and Scout. My wife, Sheila asked me to help with Cubs as they weren’t doing much and the Beavers going up weren’t staying. A lovely lady called Helen and I took over Cubs and the rest is history! Most recently I have been ADC Cubs in Wigan District and Group Scout Leader at 1st Abram.

What is your favourite Scouting adventure or memory?
My favourite adventure is taking 1st Abram Cubs along with other packs in Wigan District to CubJam every 3 years. Another favourite was organising the 100th Birthday Party for Wigan District in my role as ADC Cubs.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I’m looking forward to getting more Cubs from across the County involved in a range of exciting range of programme activities and events. I would also like to take a whole contingent of Greater Manchester West Cub Scouts to the next CubJam event.

We have two exciting vacancies to join our team!

District Commissioner for Ellesmere District
