Wild in Art and Manchester City Council brought Manchester together this summer for Bee in the City, one of the most successful public art events the city has ever seen.
Thousands of people followed the trail discovering more than 230 bees all over Manchester, taking in the city’s landmarks and undiscovered gems. Each of the 101 super-sized bees was designed by a different artist and celebrated the unique buzz of Manchester, from its industrial heritage to its vibrant music scene. 131 smaller bees were also part of the trail, created by the children and young people of our city including the Scouts of Greater Manchester.
A competition was held across Greater Manchester for young people to produce a design for the bee. 5 of the best designs were skillfully worked into a single design for the bee and brought to life by Yasmin Lee from Sale District.
Lord Beedan Powell was located in Manchester Cathedral for the duration of the event and is now being display in Stretford Public Hall.
