Salford Scouts Group Opening

Scout Handbook 2008

Salford Scouts are planning their latest group opening – a Sea Scouts section in land locked Salford!  Taking advantage of the excellent water sports centre on Salford Quays, the new Sea Scouts will specialise in water based activities, such as sailing and canoeing.  The full range of usual Scout activities like climbing, camping and archery will also be on offer to the group.

The new Scout section will cater for 10 – 14 year olds and will hold regular weekly meetings from the water sports centre.  Scout Leader Ann Salt said “I’m really pleased we are able to work with the water sports centre to offer young people in Salford a new kind of Scouting that has water based activities at its heart.  The facilities we have in Salford are first class and I know the new group will do really well there.”

To kick off the new group there is a taster day down at the Salford Quays Water Sports Centre this Sunday, Water Sports Centre this Sunday, 7th July from 12pm to 4pm.  Scout Leader Greg Archer said “We’ve got loads of activities this Sunday for everyone to try including wakeboarding, kayaking, bell boating, sailing and open canoeing.  We can cater for young people from 8 years and above but please bring a parent or guardian along who can sign your consent form.”

On the day the Scouts will also be on hand to talk about the various different activities they get to do each year which includes competitions and international trips.  There will also be information on hand about the different groups locally and exciting volunteering opportunities for adults that are available. Greg said “We hope to see as many people as possible on Sunday so we can show more and more people what we do and the brilliant experiences modern Scouting has to offer.”
